No Room for Debate!

Abortion is a moral issue!  Religious & moral leaders have a responsibility to speak out!

Christians should take notice of what certain candidates believe, and the organizations they endorse.

We need to be aware of our political leaders and what they believe!

I recently watched an episode of the hit series Law and Order where a psychotic husband murdered his pregnant wife’s child by tying her down; inducing labor; and killing the baby immediately after delivery. The child was the product of the wife’s adulterous relationship. In his defense, the husband claimed he performed a partial birth abortion! Through the usual plot twists, the episode reveals a dilemma prosecutors can face in seeking justice in these cases.  The detective investigating the case insisted the man committed murder. The prosecutor argued that she would have a hard time charging the suspect with murder because she did not want to violate the Supreme Court decision giving a woman the right to choose. No one could determine if the child was murdered while partially born or after being fully delivered. If the child was murdered before being fully delivered the husband could not be charged with murder.  Perhaps the most gripping part of the drama was the passionate reasoning of the detective when he accused the prosecutor of foregoing justice in order to protect a political ideology. I think the writers of Law and Order did a good job in showing how some justify abortion. In order to justify what is clearly an abhorrent practice, political liberals must draw sharp lines between political and moral ground.  Abortion is lifted out of the moral ground and is excused for fear of denying someone the right of exercising control over their body. They say it is a political issue.  But, should one excuse murder in the name of politics? There is no room for debate! God’s law has spoken loudly and clearly on this and a wide variety of issues confronting today’s society. Man has no right to dispute it.

Abortion is not a political issue, but a moral/religious matter. It is a matter of right and wrong! Just because it is bantered about in the political arena, it in no way affects God’s feelings on the matter. Scripture is adamant that life begins at conception. See Psalm 139:13-14. David writes: For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb…. Think of Jeremiah’s writing in chapter 1:5: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations." God has always been a protector of the innocent. From the beginning of time God has watched over them and taken care of them. This is illustrated in the Old Testament book of Exodus. (21:22-24) Even in New Testament times, God has not changed His mind on the issue of abortion. God, through Paul, condemned those who are undiscerning; untrustworthy; unloving; …unmerciful… (Rom. 1:31) We might conclude, that any female who is willing to have her offspring slain is someone unloving & unmerciful! See also 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Here, Paul warns of those who live without natural affection. Would this not describe the advocate of abortion? Finally, of course, murder is outlawed in Scripture. See Exo. 20:3; Rom. 13:9. We make no apologies to those who are "insulted by a narrow definition of pro-life issues…" Those who disagree here – disagree with God – not man.

"Choice" is the buzz word for pro-abortionists. In a debate recently, one political candidate said she was "not for abortion, but for choice," or we hear, "it’s my right to choose what I do with my body." Yes, we all have choices to make – God allows us to determine which path to take in life – right or wrong. But having a choice does not change the fact that abortion is murder and that it is wrong in the eyes of the Lord. Having a choice does not change the fact that those who support such efforts will "be recompensed for (their) deeds in the body, according to what (they have) done, whether good or bad." (2 Cor. 5:10)

Since abortion is a moral issue, religious and moral leaders have a responsibility to speak out. Remember God expects those who are in Him to Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless…rescue the weak and needy. (Psa. 82:3-4) Who could be more weak and innocent than an unborn child? How many can remember a time when these issues were not even debated – because everyone had a basic knowledge of right and wrong!

In order to be consistent, Christians should take notice of what certain political candidates believe, and the organizations they endorse. If a certain candidate raises funds for a morally bankrupt organization that advocates abortion on demand, then God’s kind of person will not support such a person – be it a Republican, Independent, or Democrat! If a certain candidate is endorsed by and receives funds from pro-abortion organizations then God’s kind of person will not vote for such a candidate. Why? Because voting is a direct reflection of one’s values and principles, and it would be inconsistent for God’s kind of person to not exercise God’s values when going to the polls.

All people who love the Lord need to be aware of our political leaders and what they believe. Get to know them. Find out what their values are. Support the ones who share godly values, because we know those who do not hold to God’s standard of morality are and will be motivated to vote for the candidates that support their ungodly issues.
